DESCRIPTION : This book examines the way in which the fictional writings of C.S. Lewis reveal much about the man himself and his quest for psychological and spiritual wholeness. There is new material dealing with C.S. Lewis's political writings, especially the correspondences between his thriller, That Hideous Strength and George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, and some new insights into Lewis's attitudes to women.

DESCRIPTION : This carefully crafted ebook: "THE SPACE TRILOGY – Complete Collection: Out of the Silent Planet + Perelandra (Voyage to Venus) + That Hideous Strength" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The "Space Trilogy" dealt with what Lewis saw as the dehumanizing trends in contemporary science fiction. The first book, Out of the Silent Planet, was apparently written following a conversation with his friend J.R.R. Tolkien about these trends. Lewis's main character Elwin Ransom is based in part on Tolkien, a fact to which Tolkien alludes in his letters. The second novel, Perelandra, depicts a new Garden of Eden on the planet Venus, a new Adam and Eve, and a new "serpent figure" to tempt Eve. The story can be seen as an account of what might have happened if the terrestrial Adam had defeated the serpent and avoided the Fall of Man, with Ransom intervening in the novel to "ransom" the new Adam and Eve from the deceptions of the enemy. The third novel, That Hideous Strength, develops the theme of nihilistic science threatening traditional human values, embodied in Arthurian legend. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, literary critic and lay theologian. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Space Trilogy

DESCRIPTION : Who was the real C S Lewis, behind the remarkable enigma? This sparkling new biography brings out the significance of the key friendships in his life, showing how these influenced his thoughts and writings. At home with ideas and in debate, he valued friendship above all, and not just with fellow intellectuals. Amongst his most important friendships were those with Arthur Greeves, Janie Moore, and the other members of the Inklings. All are considered in depth in this book. One of the most brilliant academics of his time, C S Lewis saw the world as story-shaped, and the imagination as the centre of who he was. This book brings out the story of his life.

DESCRIPTION : Used by C.S. Lewis himself, the term “scientifiction” is revived here as it once encompassed not only what we call science fiction, but also that indeterminate field of the 1940s and 1950s sometimes referred to as science fantasy (leading up to Ray Bradbury), along with a portion of that great realm that has come, since the advent of The Lord of the Rings, to be called fantasy. Rather as an eighteenth-century novel may pre-date the divide between novel and romance, so C.S. Lewis’s “interplanetary” novels may be considered to pre-date the modern divide between fantasy and science fiction and thus be thought of as “scientifictional” in nature. The stories dealt with are those in which Elwin Ransom is a character, the three usually called the “space trilogy”: Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength—and the time-fragment entitled The Dark Tower. Lengthy chapters are devoted to each of the four Ransom stories. The book presents a study of Lewis, the nature of science fiction, the nature of Lewis’s “Arcadian” science fiction and his (and its) place in English literary history.

Author Terry Lindvall takes readers on a highly amusing and deeply meaningful journey through the life and letters of one of the most beloved Christian thinkers and writers.
